All Outer Cape Sailing captains are US Coast Guard licensed for carrying passsengers, and US Sailing Instructor certified for teaching.  They are subject to USCG random drug testing program.

Captain Gary Flomenhoft

Gary has 35 years of sailing experience on many sailboats from 12-50 feet. He has sailed the Pacific coast from Seattle to Panama including California, Mexico, Costa Rica, the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, and Northeast Atlantic Coast for 25 years. He has also sailed around the Moreton Bay in Queensland, Australia.  He has been sailing the waters of Wellfleet Harbor and Cape Cod for 20 years. 

Gary has a USCG Master 50 Ton License as well as CPR, 1st AID, and Lifesaving.  In 2006 he became certified as a US Sailing Small Boat Instructor, and began offering the course at Outer Cape Sailing.  In 2012 he was certified by US Sailing and ASA as an instructor for Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising, Bareboat Cruising, and Coastal Navigation.

Gary has taught the Basic Keelboat course at Cape Cod Sailing School in Cataumet for several seasons, and Bareboat Cruising courses in the British Virgin Islands and St. Maarten, in the Caribbean.

Prior to starting the sailing business, Gary was an ocean lifeguard for Cape Cod National Seashore and the towns of Wellfleet and Orleans over a period of 18 years.  In the offseason, he has been a teacher at every level from middle school to graduate school.  He is a patient teacher and likes kids.
